Remember God

When God began killing them, they finally sought him. They repented and took God seriously. Then they remembered that God was their rock, that God Most High was their redeemer. But all they gave him was lip service; they lied to him with their tongues. Their hearts were not loyal to him. They did not keep his covenant. Yet he was merciful and forgave their sins and did not destroy them all. Many times he held back his anger and did not unleash his fury! For he remembered that they were merely mortal, gone like a breath of wind that never returns. Psalm 78:34-39 NLT

Just like God’s people drifted away in their relationship with Him, we have a tendency to do the same. For whatever reason, we allow the busyness of everyday life and material things (i.e. raising kids, marriage, career, ministry, etc.) to replace God and we forget about Him. We neglect to make time to pray and meditate on His Word each day and do not pursue a deeper relationship with Him. Just like any relationship, if we do not attend and nurture our relationship with GOD, it will grow distant and meaningless. Most often we then allow sin to creep back into our lives unchecked. Sometimes God will take drastic measures to gain our attention, but thankfully because of His great love for us, He is merciful to restore and forgive. Let’s not give God lip service, but let’s pursue more of Him in our lives until we are finally in His glorious presence.
