Jesus, A Perfect Sacrifice
“On the tenth of this month everyone shall take for himself a lamb. . . Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two door posts and the lentil of the houses where they eat it. . . So you shall eat it in haste, it is the Lord‘s Passover. . . And when I see the blood I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.”
Exodus 12:3-13
The Passover, when God judged Egypt but passed over the houses of Israel that were covered by the blood is an incredibly clear and important picture of Jesus! God commanded the Israelites to celebrate every year the memory of the Passover following this pattern, to remind them of God’s deliverance, based on grace, when covered by the blood. They thought it was looking back, but it was also looking ahead to Jesus, as the ultimate fulfillment of Passover! John the Baptist spoke of Jesus saying: “Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world!”
Jesus is the perfect sacrifice allowing us to be passed over from judgment and delivered!
