A God of His Word

The grass withers, the flowers fades, but the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8

In Ecclesiastes 5:5 it is written “Better not to vow than to vow and not pay”. This is primarily in reference our human promises made to God, it certainly applies to promises made person to person. In fact in Matthew 5:37 Jesus said “Let your ‘yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No’”.  Implying “say what you mean and mean what you say”.

Think what our life would be like if we had to wonder whether God would keep his promises. They certainly would not be great and precious promises. No promise made by an untrustworthy God would be worthy of human belief. Think of what would be lost if we couldn’t trust God: salvation, forgiveness, eternal life, daily bread – everything God has promised and what we depend on. Imagine in our time of need we made our way to God’s “throne of grace” and find out we cannot obtain mercy and find grace.  But God is trustworthy and we can believe He will keep his promises.

Speaking through the prophet Isaiah He said that while the creation passes away, His Word stands forever.  If you need grace and mercy today, take God at His Word and receive these gifts.
