New Morning, New Mercies

Lots of folks around the world take the New Year to set goals and treat it like a fresh start. "New Year, New Me" is a phrase that was coined years ago and seems to capture the idea perfectly. Some of us want a fresh start. We leave the failures in the past and look forward to being a better person. We, as Christians, may even start a new devotional or aim to read the Bible in 1 year.

All these goals and aspirations are great, but they don't compare to God's renewal plan. We are new creations in Him as II Corinthians 5:17 states. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." That's a promise for today, so long as you have Jesus. It doesn't wait until January 1st to start. We also see in Lamentations 3:22 & 23 that the saying should be "New Morning, New Mercies". It reads,

"Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness." God's compassion is renewed every morning and, unlike my diet on January 2nd, continues on every day. He never forgets, and His love for us NEVER fails.
